Background

The portamap manager is a windows application to help create portamap workspaces and aid in the preparation of data for use in portamap. Portamap uses workspaces to help organise datasets and map information. A workspace usually covers a particular area of interest and this could be as small as a property or as large as a country. Workspace information is stored in the c:\portamap\ ”workspacename” directory and comprises of the datasets and xml configuration files. These files are then transferred to your device for use within portamap.

Workspace Manager

Data is loaded to workspaces using the workspace manager. Workspaces comprise of raster basemaps, waypoint files and shapefiles.

Raster Map maker

Use the raster map maker to make basemaps. These basemaps can be JPG, GIF, BMP or ECW format. Maps must be geo-referenced with known coordinates before use. Some files like ecw files will have coordinates within the file.
